Blueprint to Improve Performance Efficiencies
A blueprint to improve performance and efficiency in the highways maintenance industry to aid cash-strapped councils under fire from government cuts is being produced by a leading trade body.

New Head for Britains Leading Highways Trade Body
The new head of Britain’s leading highways trade body has vowed to ‘develop stronger, productive and results-orientated outcomes across the sector’ despite the pressures of Government spending cuts.
Philip Hoare was appointed new chairman of the Highways Term Maintenance Association (HTMA) at the organisations AGM in London last week and immediately committed the organisation to further improving the quality of highways management and maintenance in a bid to reinforce the message that reliable and safe roads are paramount to the social and economic needs of the nation.

Safety Working Group |

| Chaired by Kristine Pollock, Group Head of HR Ringway, the People Working Group is working towards an industry association that provides support and guidance to members in order that highway maintenance can be seen as an attractive and rewarding career based on common standards of qualification and behaviours. |

Improvements and Efficiency Working Group |
| Chaired by Hannah Shires, Performance Manager, Amey, the Improvements and Efficiency Working Group (formerly known as the Performance Working Group) is in the unique position of being able to gather the industry view on which KPIs are used most often and most effectively and how best practice can be shared. The work of the Improvements and Efficiency Working Group is crucial to the future performance of the Industry. |

Sustainability Working Group |
| Chaired by Alan Capell Halcrow, the Sustainability Working Group is making good progress in its aim to establish the current carbon footprint of the industry. Once this has been achieved, targets for reduction can be agreed by the HTMA membership and steps taken to reach those targets. |

Procurement Working Group |
| Chaired by Steve Ashley, Mouchel, the Procurement Working Group aims to streamline the procurement process to create best value for members and clients and become an industry voice and valued source of information for procurement issues. |
