HTMA Reach Five-Year Milestone Bolstered by Stakeholder Recognition

Collaboration further extends trade body’s industry leading work

The Highways Term Maintenance Association (HTMA), which celebrates its five-year anniversary this month, today announced it is strengthening its voice within the highways industry in the UK by taking an active role in the work of the World Road Association (WRA) and a seat on its UK Committee.

As the UK’s only trade body dedicated to highways management and maintenance, HTMA say the move will enhance its exposure while providing an opportunity to keep key industry issues, such as road worker safety and sustainability, high on the government’s agenda.

"As one of the leaders in driving positive change for road workers and road users, HTMA continuously seeks alliances with organisations to expand and enhance our influencing capabilities,” said HTMA Executive Director, David Hutchinson.

“We look forward to working with the WRA, to share with them the work of HTMA and to provide our Members with greater access to key audiences.

“We are delighted with the progress HTMA has made since its launch in 2005. The amount of collaboration that has been generated between the various stakeholders, has enabled different initiatives to get the best input from a variety of sources and therefore deliver more robust and sustainable outputs.  We hope that this will continue as we all pull together through difficult times to maximise output and results.”

Through their work, HTMA believes the strategic and local highway authorities will benefit from efficiencies generated in the industry.  This will give real benefits, which will help manage the budgetary challenges ahead.

HTMA is collaborating with many Government-facing organisations and has a seat at the newly formed All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG).  It has contributed to the UK Roads Board Winter Maintenance Lessons Learnt report, Transport Scotland’s 4G contract procurement exercise, TRL’s Pavement Management project, DfT’s consultation exercise on Drivers’ Hours and the UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) report ‘Capability of the UK’.  The different Working Groups are currently collaborating with CIHT on a ‘careers in highways’ project and with CECA and BCIS on modernizing methods within procurement systems.

HTMA’s membership of leading consultants and contractors has a combined turnover of more than £3 billion, over 20,000 employees and maintains approximately 400,000 km of highway across the UK – approximately 80% of British roads.
